Shades, a military brat, cite artist Too Short, for luring her into the realm of Hip-Hop. “… {The} first time hearing Cocktail just did it for me," says Shades. "I’ve been in the hip-hop dance scene for a long time," mentions Durty Red, who transitioned into a recording artist after years of entertaining as background dancer for acts such as Mary J Blige, Keith Sweat and most recently, the First Lady of Crunk & B, Ciara. It was a yesteryear episode of "Yo MTV Raps" featuring MC Lyte that would permanently link Laylow to the ever-evolving hip-hop chain. "Every since that day, I’ve been rapping," says Laylow. To date, Laylow has produced and written music for artist such as The Vistoso Bosses, Raven Samone and the sultry R&B songstress, Monifah. What started merely as a vision is now a reality. Destiny was met when the three wordsmiths merged their individual flair forming THE GANG OF ROSES. While giving much respect to the Crunk capital in which they derive. THE GANG OF ROSES disassociates themselves as being solely "Queens of Crunk." The ladies cleverly dubbed themselves as the "Queens of Alternative Rap; that goes from our unique rap style, to our lyrics, to the way we look," defines Durty Red. On their debut album, presently titled “Bright Lights”, high energy and head bobbing beats are woven throughout each song. It’s their catchy hooks as storylines t hat overpower; drawing the attention of both female and male fans alike. "{On} each song we’re talking about something different, something we feel or may have experienced. We’re not recording the same concept. When you listen to the music you’ll see that video in your head at the same time. That’s what we aim for. Though written from a female perspective, THE GANG OF ROSES ensures that there’s something on the album for everyone. "Everyone is gonna have at least one song that they can relate to" affirms Laylow.
On the super-charge track, "Rockstar," the ladies get crunk, flips the script, spitting pimpish male-centered lyrics on having sex with no strings attached.
